Rules and History
Welcome to ComedySportz! It is spelled with a ‘z’ because it is funny. ComedySportz is an improvised show for everyone all ages. What we mean is that there is absolutely no lewd, crude, or rude language or content. Since this is improv, you have to be able to think on your feet and swearing is an easy way out. This particular improv show ties into a competitive sport-like theme to make the show more fast-paced and exciting. We hope you enjoy the game!
The History:
ComedySportz is the longest running show in Los Angeles. There is a Professional team that plays in Hollywood, a college team that also plays in Hollywood, and then finally the High School Team which is a great way for kids to learn improve and become quick on their feet.
How do we play?
There is 1 Referee, 1 Mr. Voice, 1 Vannah White, and 8 beautiful players! There are 2 teams with 4 players. Each team plays one round. In a round, the team will play 1 opener, 2 improv games, and 1 closer. There will be a short half time, and then the next team will come up and do it all over again!
What is a typical improv game?
In ComedySportz each team has the opportunity to play 2 games. They are basic five minute improve scenes that the Ref runs. At the end of the 1st & 2nd teams scene, the audience votes by clapping and making noise to decide who gets the five points.
Brown Bags:
Brown bags are literally brown grocery bags that the referee will make the player or an audience member where if they say an “R” rated comment.
